COFFEE BREAK IN ZURICH

March 7, 2012 | In Travel

Everyone probably has their favorite place for a morning espresso before heading to work or an afternoon latte macchiato with friends while shopping. Here a selection of cafés in Zurich we like to stop by when we are in the area.

Kreis 1: Bellavista is just around the corner of Townhouse, serving excellent Italian coffee and with a very friendly staff, so we love stopping by for a quick espresso before and a glass of wine after work. For a more extended coffee break in the afternoon or on the weekend Terrasse is always a good choice, especially with their lovely garden in the summer and delightful afternoon menu card. Schwarzenbach Teecafé is our favorite place for afternoon tea and scones, but as space is extremely limited we recommend a visit during the week or early in the morning. On the other side of the Limmat the recently opened Babu’s Bakery & Coffeehouse is a new haven for girls, but be sure to reserve a table during lunch hours.

Kreis 2: La Stanza is yet another Italian café serving excellent coffee and a good place to stop by when you’re around Paradeplatz. Expect a lot of bankers and hip students hanging around.

Kreis 3: Sisu is a lovely Finnish café run by the siblings Katrin and Johannes. With Pulla, Finnish lemonade and a very hip yet uncomplicated setting, Sisu is the perfect place to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon. Only a couple of minutes from Sisu is Zum Guten Glück, an ideal place to meet up with friends and enjoy some poffertjes.

Kreis 5: The integrated book shop is probably what makes Sphères one of our favorite places to stop by for a break while taking a walk along the Limmat.

Kreis 7: Renovation was desperately needed and the staff still lacks professional training, but the new Bohemia has been massively improved and become another place we like to spend our weekends.

Kreis 10: Café des amis has quickly evolved to be the new place for the hip crowd of Zurich to hang around, especially for weekend brunching, and is lovely to sit outside in the summer.

Swiss tunes

January 21, 2012 | In Culture, Products

An unusual sentiment on our behalf, but we are in the mood for some catchy pop tunes. Be prepared to revise your view of the Swiss music scene, we have more to offer than DJ Bobo and have put together a small playlist of our current favorite Swiss artists. All CDs can be purchased at Townhouse.

PELIKAMO – THE NEW MENSWEAR SHOP IN ZURICH

November 29, 2011 | In Behind the scenes, Travel

The idea of opening a second shop in Zurich dedicated to highly selected menswear had been around for a while. But it is always a question of finding the perfect location and we are very excited to announce that a couple of weeks back, we finally did. For those of you who read our newsletter on a regular basis will remember that we teamed up with Christian Hunziker for a shop-in-shop in his tailoring atelier a couple of month ago. This cooperation has been working well and we were intrigued by the idea of working together on a much bigger level. Since then things have been moving fast, together with Christian and Urs we’ve come up with a whole new concept, got in touch with our favorite menswear labels from around the world, created a new private label collection and collected mid-century furniture classics from all over Switzerland. With exciting brands such as Mismo, Travelteq, Ron Dorff, Lavenham, Samuel Gassmann, Sanders, The White Briefs as well as our own Pelikamo private label collection, we want to offer a one-stop for the urban professional with a sleek selection of classic business and casual clothing including an in-house tailor. Our objective is for all of our products to be simple, wearable, yet of highest quality in terms of materials and manufacturing. The shop is perfectly located just opposite of Kaufleuten in an impressive former UBS office space. Please join us for the opening on Saturday, December 3rd between 10am and 6pm, we would love to celebrate with you. We will soon be launching an e-shop, so be sure to subscribe to our Pelikamo newsletter to stay updated.

NEW JAMES HEELEY SCENT

November 18, 2011 | In Behind the scenes, Products

It was a long journey to find the perfect perfume brand and we were extremely excited when we finally did. Made in France from a selection of rare ingredients of finest quality, James Heeley’s scents are a contemporary version of the traditional Eau de Parfum. We are delighted about the many positive reactions we’ve had from our customers and that the perfumes have been selling so well. We’ve finally restocked all scents (including the bestseller Sel Marin) and have also added a new one: St.Clement’s. Oranges, lemons, bergamot, neroli and Earl Grey tea make an exhilarating combination and remind of a modern and fresh version of the traditional Eau de Cologne. Same as a pair of high-quality shoes, a stunning watch or a beautiful umbrella, this is a must-have essential every man needs. Available in Zurich exclusively at Townhouse.

ASTIER DE VILLATTE

November 9, 2011 | In Products

We usually don’t post press clippings here (visit our Facebook page for regular press updates), but this is such a beautiful picture taken by the talented Mr. Grob for Züritripp that we couldn’t resist. The vase by Astier de Villatte is handmade in France and available at Townhouse.

THE TOWNHOUSE TOTE

November 7, 2011 | In Behind the scenes

Once a year we launch a limited edition of the Townhouse tote. We are overwhelmed with the amount of inquiries we receive during the year about the availability of the bag and are happy to announce that the tote is once again available, free with every purchase as long as stocks last.

HOTEL POST BEZAU

September 9, 2011 | In Travel

If you are looking to get away for a couple of days, feel like combining wellness, good food and nature without overspending, we can highly recommend this beautiful spa hotel in Austria. Located in a quiet valley in Vorarlberg only two hours from Zurich by car, the hotel has been beautifully renovated and combines alpine chic with modern spa facilities and a Gault Millau awarded restaurant. The food is excellent and the hospitality even more so, the only slight downfall being the rooms, which are a bit too modern for our liking – personally we would prefer to come back to a more cosy setting after wandering through the Bregenzer Forest. But we were quickly reconvinced after heating up in the beautiful garden sauna, enjoying a massage in the Susanne Kaufmann Spa and relaxing in the mini saltwater pool. The surrounding landscape is beautiful, so don’t forget to take along your hiking shoes and to stop by at Alpengasthaus Edelweiss for lunch.
